Biotech Project Systems Story

For 15 years, I managed research projects — writing grant proposals, planning experiments, structuring research papers. I thought that was project management.

Then I moved into IT project management in large institutions, and learned what project management actually is.

That gap didn’t matter much when I was doing science as a scientist. It matters enormously when science-driven organisations try to do business.

The systems we’re trained in as researchers — built for grants, experiments, and publications — aren’t built for impatient investors, partners who stay quiet until it’s too late, or hitting business milestones on a deadline. That mismatch is what I now help fix.

I bring a PhD in Biology alongside that research and IT project management background. But what I actually do is specific:

I help science-driven companies see where execution is breaking down — and put the right structure in place so things flow again.

Not by running your projects for you. By fixing why they don’t run as well as they should.

I understand how scientific organisations work — the interfaces between research and operations, the complexity of managing external partners and specialist providers, the pressure of delivering against funding milestones.

That’s the environment I work in. And that’s exactly where the execution gap tends to hide.

Biotech Project Systems Core Values

  • Bridge, not gatekeeper — connects science and delivery; doesn’t run the science, doesn’t hide behind jargon
  • Structure over heroics — sustainable systems, not more hours from an already-stretched team
  • Collaborative — works with you and with your team, not around them; findings and recommendations are shaped together, not delivered from outside. I’m also a qualified coach, which shapes how I listen and help teams find their own answers.
  • Evidence-led — findings grounded in what’s actually observed, not a generic framework applied blindly
  • Transparent by default — clear about scope, timelines, and what a diagnosis will (and won’t) tell you
  • Right-sized, not overbuilt — solutions scaled to a 5–99 person company, not enterprise-consultancy bureaucracy

Alongside this work, I’ve also written Project Power: Simple Steps for Turning Business Dreams into Reality — a practical, entry-level guide to project management for small business owners, entrepreneurs, and startups who want a lighter starting point before working together directly. → Get the book
